The initial step in receiving an accurate quote for custom silicone bags is to give them clear and complete details. Numerous brand owners and importers submit ambiguous queries only to discover that pricing has changed, lead times have been extended or tooling fees are quoted at a later stage when they reach the factory for clarification. Having a well-prepared RFQ can help us manufacturers to estimate material usage, tooling requirements, production complexity and shipping costs from the first response.

This guide will help you understand what information you need to provide to get accurate estimates and schedules upfront. These factors can help shorten the time it takes to get a quote, as well as avoid any surprises down the road, whether you are creating food storage bags, cosmetic pouches, travel organizers, or pet treat bags.

Core Product Definition – Use Case, Style and Function

To begin your RFQ, make it very clear what the silicone bag is to be used for as well as how it will be used in the real world. This context is required by factories to suggest an appropriate material, thickness and characteristics.

Give us your key use case: Reusable bag for freezer and microwave? A travel-friendly cosmetic bag that is impervious to liquids? Stand up pet treat bag? Or an outside waterproof equipment pouch? Include the context in which the environment it will be in — kitchen, bathroom, beach, kids’ use.

Good example: “500 ml freezer-bag for food use, stand-up, dishwasher safe, leak-proof, sealing mechanism (press open).

Weak example: Only “silicone bag.”

Specific details facilitate us in suggesting the right type of silicone, closure system, and additional features such as foldability or sand-proof design.

Dimensions, Capacity and Thickness – The Basis of Cost Calculation

The key drivers of unit pricing are material consumption and cycle time and these are directly affected by size and thickness. Give approximate external dimensions (length x width x height/gusset) or capacity in ml/L. If you prefer a certain thickness of the wall or a softer or firmer hand feel, let them know.

Simple sketches / 2D drawings with dimensions are fine — even hand drawn are okay at the quoting stage. Use of vague terms such as “small”, “medium” and “large” cannot be used to ensure accurate costing.

One Size or Multiple Sizes in a Set?

Please notify in advance if you require one size or a set of sizes (e.g. S/M/L kitchen storage sets). This detail will have a bearing on mold planning, packaging, and the overall economics, and should be included in your initial RFQ.

Material, Safety and Performance Requirements

There are many different types of silicone formulations that are used for certain applications. Outline your safety and performance requirements to ensure you’re not over-engineered, and get the right grade.

Baby or pet contact – refer to FDA or LFGB compliance. State temperature requirements: Freezer safe to -40°C, heat resistant to boiling water, or dishwasher safe. Add extra soft, platinum cured, high tear resistance and highly transparent silicone if required.

Color, Transparency and Surface Finish Preferences

Explain your colour strategy: mono-coloured, multi-coloured, transparent, translucent or opaque. Also consider finish preferences, such as soft-touch matte finish, glossy or textured. These choices influence material selection and secondary processing costs.

Closure, Accessories and Special Features

One of the most significant functional choices is closure type. They can be press-to-close seals, sliding zippers, zip locks, snaps, hooks or other types. Let us know your preference or if you’re willing to accept our recommendations for the use case.

Include any other features, such as handles, holes for hanging, stiff frames, markings, clear windows, or combination materials (silicone body with plastic zipper). Each feature has an impact on the price of the tooling and the unit.

Logo, Printing and Branding Elements

Branding helps create a marketing asset out of your silicone bag. Request logos to be printed (number of colors, both sides or one side) or debossed/embossed logos molded in or all-over patterns. Add artwork with logo (approx. size and positioning). The complexity of the printing actually does affect the quote.

When you share clear answers to these questions, a custom silicone bags OEM supplier can quickly calculate realistic tooling and unit costs and suggest the most suitable production plan.

Order Quantity, Packaging and Shipping Details

The key to pricing is volume. Give your anticipated order size for each size or order size for each set and tell if it is a one-time order or a longer order. Of course, bigger orders yield lower cost per unit.

Talk about the packaging you need: individual polybags, colour boxes, belly bands or multi-pack sets. You can help us give you accurate carton dimensions and landed cost estimates by providing the country/port of delivery and the preferred shipping methods (sea, air, or express).

Timeline, Launch Date and Flexibility

Communicate your desired launch date or any hard deadlines (seasonal promotion, trade show). If you know your actual schedule it will help us schedule the making of your molds and the production capacity to make them.

Drawings, Samples and Reference Products

The use of visual references significantly enhances quote accuracy. Submit 2D diagrams (preferably in PDF) with dimensions, 3D files (if available) and photos of physical components or competitor products that you wish to emulate or enhance.

What to Do If You Don’t Have Drawings Yet

Don’t worry if you’re still at the concept stage. A ballpark quote can be requested with photos, descriptions and rough sizes. After the project goes forward, our engineering team will be able to offer you DFM (design for manufacturing) assistance and complete the drawings.

Factory-Side Questions You Should Be Ready to Answer

Any professional factory will typically have a few clarifying questions before giving an end quotation. Common ones include:

  • This for direct food contact or outer packaging only?
  • Are there any certifications or lab tests that are required?
  • What hand feel do you like more, soft or firm?
  • What is your ballpark retail/wholesale price per unit?

The questions indicate that the factory is carefully considering your project, so consider them a good sign.

Better Information, Better Quotes, Fewer Surprises

Detailed and structured information in your RFQ means that you will get a response more quickly, get better pricing, and develop the project more smoothly. The multiple rounds of back and forth and the risk of price changes after sampling will be avoided.

Use this checklist as your go-to checklist for all future custom silicone bag projects. The more specific you are, the more we can help you with hands-on ideas and proven production.

We have been assisting many brands to bring their ideas to life in the form of a successful product at Dongguan HT Silicone & Rubber Co., Ltd. Provide us with your project information and we’ll provide you with a clear, competitive quote based on your requirements.
